Story of the series
Set in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Iris Carter grows up overlooked while her father dotes on her manipulative half-sister, Madison. In college, Iris falls for her bodyguard Ryan Vanderbilt—the hidden heir to an elite family—only to discover at graduation that he has his heart set on Madison, and only used her to get close. Over the years, Ryan blindly favors Madison, doing whatever she asks, even when it means hurting Iris. Heartbroken, Iris finally decides to walk away. She offers to take Madison’s place in a marriage to the comatose heir of the Archibald family, Liam, and cuts off all ties with Ryan. Liam later awakens, and Iris is surprised to find that what begins as obligation gradually turns into true love between them—revealing a long-standing bond that had always tied their families together. Meanwhile, Ryan realizes too late that Iris was the one he truly loved—and that he had lost her for good.
