Top research scientist Adrian, who had spent over a decade in anonymity developing weapons for the nation, returned upon completing his mission to reunite with his wife Elsie and daughter Charlie. Meanwhile, Charlie, a girl from the bottom rung of society, and her mute mother Elsie struggled to make ends living by running a street stall, only to suffer brutal harassment from the local bully Caleb. Elsie was severely beaten and later fell from a building, ending up in a vegetative state. Unaware that her father was the recently returned Adrian, Charlie found nowhere to turn for justice. In a desperate attempt to save her mother, Charlie went to a clinic to obtain a special medicine, but Caleb snatched it from her.
